Grandma's Sunday Dinner Meatballs

When I was growing up, every Sunday after Church we went to Grandma's for dinner. Every Sunday she fixed something different. Although everything was wonderful, my absolute favorite dish was Grandma's meatballs.
To this day, some 40 years later, this is still my favorite comfort food.
Grandma passed away over 25 years ago and took her recipe with her. But I was determined I would figure it out! The recipe below is exactly as I remember it at Grandma's house all those years ago.

You may recognize some of the ingredients as being from Aldi's. I tend to shop there a lot!

Wash, core and wedge the bell peppers.

Mix all ingredients.

Get in there with both hands and mix well!

Form into balls a little bigger than a golf ball.
Mix up 1 cup ketchup and 1 1/2 cups of water.

Place bell peppers on the bottom of the slow cooker, place meatballs on the peppers. Pour the ketchup mixture over the top.

Cook on low for 7-8 hours or high for 4-5 hours.


1 lb ground beef
2 - 3 bell peppers, cored, cut into wedges
1 cup crushed saltine crackers
1 large egg
1/4 cup diced onion
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp garlic

1 cup ketchup
1 1/2 cup water

Meatballs - mix all ingredients, form into meatballs
Sauce - Mix ingredients, pour over meatballs and peppers in slow cooker.

Cook on low for 7-8 hours or high for 4-5 hours.
